Commenting on other team game trailers

nIncluding our own group there were four groups in total that created their own game trailers and performed the same tasks as we did. Everyone created a different end product and everyone had a separate role such as one person creating the credits, another creating a splash screen, an intro and someone to put it together. This created much variation between each team’s final product with each person having a separate approach to it.

nTeam 42 had created the trailer for a game they named ‘Zero G’. This trailer had a heavy sci-fi setting and revolved around a racing genre, this therefore called less around actual characters and focused more on vehicles and fast paced action. The trailer had a large Varity of effects that seemed to go well together, the wireframe effect was particularly impressive with surges of light bursting through. Although very exiting I found the trailer to be building up to something more that it gave, such as some form of a crash like most racing game trailers to show the intensity of the game. Despite this I found the trailer to be one of the most impressive out of the showcase giving a nice sense of scale and pulling in the audience until the end as well as making good use of sound effects and camera angles. The only other issue I had with the trailer was that the game logo was rather difficult to see at first and could have done being slightly larger than it was as well as ending with a splash screen.

nNegative one created the trailer for Des Late, an adventure based game that was very impressive that gave narration using unspoken words building up the trailer as it progressed. In particular the starting screen was no doubt the best out of all the trailers giving previews on the different characters the player could chose as well as setting the time and date using old parchment, I found this to be very professional and impressive. However I found the trailer did drag on for longer that it should have done, with some of the footage dragging out the trailer longer that it should have, and as a result the music became slightly boring by the end of it but at the same time gave a very constant effect of adventure for the trailer which was a nice effect. The trailer gave a massive number of environments for the audience to look at, such as a large ocean, to a abandoned castle and even a volcano which I found very effective. Overall if the trailer had been a little shorter and maybe some dialogue to explain the back-story the trailer would have been even better than it was.

nThe third trailer was produced by the team called Laser baby with their trailer Tempest Limit before which. The game looked very much like a horror game trailer such as silent hill. It made great use of a film grain to make it appear like an old show reel. The background soundtrack set the scene very well leaving much to the imagination of the audience. It used a classic old font to make the trailer appear very old. The camera was perfectly paced as if someone was walking through the environment. The environments made use of lighting very well dimming at particular points and adding in a character or an object where it was not before. The trailer used multiple effects such as a glass shatter, character movement, opening doors and appearing walls to create a real dark and alone feeling in the trailer. However I did find the trailer to be too dark at points and could not have seen the characters as well as they could have been shown and of course could have made good use of some spoken narration, however overall I found the trailer for Tempest to be the most interesting trailer out of the four using a good mix of sound effects, film grains and fades between each scene.

nThe final trailer is the one by Paradox for the trailer Dark shock, this was our own teams trailer, overall I like our trailer making good use of flicker effects and noise to create the image of a bad camera as well as the use of comedy in a dark future was very effective at the showcase. However the trailer did lack at parts mainly with the background soundtrack becoming louder than some of the speech and narration in the trailer and the quality of each trailer differed between each scene and was slightly more obvious than the other trailers such as the use of textures or the lack of sky in some trailers while others used explosion effects different and did not stay consistent. However I think the story was very consistent to the original storyboard. The ending splash screen and credits also stood out over the others making the appear look very eye catching and professional overall.
